Craig L. Flynn, 54, passed away prematurely on May 29, 2014, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was born on July 1, 1959, in New London, and graduated from Norwich Technical High School in 1977. He moved to Quaker Hill with his family in 1987, and went on to gain two Associate of science degrees, one in Mechanical Engineering, the other in Computer-Aided Engineering.
Craig worked as a Navy Satellite Communications Manager at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, with his 34-year career beginning in the New London Sound Lab before being transferred to Newport, RI. He is a recent recipient of the Frank C. Jones Award presented by the American Society of Naval Engineers for his work as the facility manager of the SubHDR National Maintenance Center, one of only two recipients since 1967 to be a non-degreed engineer.
In his free time, Craig could always be found near the water. He loved his boat, Block Island, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. He is remembered for his career accomplishments, and his ability to entertain those around him with his stories and sense of humor.
Craig is predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Betty Jane (Button) Flynn, and nephew James “Jay” Serwinski. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Cassidy and Melissa Flynn, daughter Baylee Flynn, beloved fiancée Teresa Peracca, and her children Kayla and Mitch Bassett, as well as his sisters, nieces, nephews, and countless other friends and family members.
In keeping with his wishes, services will focus on celebrating the life of this kindhearted individual who will be missed by so many. His family will be receiving relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.
