ROGER WALLACE HARTZBERG, 82 of Duluth, died peacefully Monday, May 12, 2014, in Duluth with his loving wife of 20 years, Diane Trano Hartzberg by his side. Roger was born on January 26, 1932, in Tamarack, MN to Ive and Karin Hartzberg. Roger learned a strong work ethic growing up on the family farm.

Roger was a generous caregiver and found any opportunity any to help others – family, neighbors and strangers alike. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, story and joke telling, anything to enhance and share knowledge. He worked for the Soo Line Railroad and retired from St. Louis County as a Court Administrator. Roger was active with the Ionic Masonic Lodge #186, Scottish Rite Valley of Duluth, AAD Shrine Temple and the Drum and Bugle Corp.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie; his parents Ive and Karin Hartzberg; his siblings, Sven, Gunnar, John, Donald, Kenneth, Evelyn, Ethel and Carol.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; his sister, Marian Indihar of Tamarack, MN; stepchildren, Mark (Elizabeth) Mosiniak of Apple Valley, MN; Maria (John) Swenson of Sun Prairie, WI and Lianna (Robert) Kasza of Wesley Chapel, FL; his grandchildren, Elyssa and Matthew Kasza and numerous nieces, nephews and his loving dog, Sprout.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2014 in Hillside United Methodist Church, 1801 Piedmont Avenue in Duluth. A gathering of friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at Round Lake Cemetery in rural Tamarack, Minn.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to U of M Amplatz Children’s Hospital.
