Finis E. “Gene” Black
Age 83 of Butler Twp. passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014, after a sudden battle against cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of the past 62 years, Delores (Daugherty) Black, daughter, Vicki Long and husband, Bruce; brothers, Rodney and Finis; and by nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
Gene was a U. S. Army Korean War veteran. He had a 31-year career as a long distance truck driver for Eastern Express, CW Transport and Preston Equipment. He was a member of the Teamster’s Local 957. Gene recently received his 60-year membership certificate from the Tipp City Masonic Lodge, and he was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton and the Antioch Shrine. He truly enjoyed his retirement for 24 years. Gene enjoyed simple pleasures: reading the Wall Street Journal, an Oreo cookie with his coffee, a Miller Lite after working in the yard, a nap to refresh, and always being with his wife.
Masonic & Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 16, at the George C. Martin Funeral Home, Northridge Chapel, 5040 Frederick Pike at Needmore Road. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the Martin Funeral Home. Private interment will be at a later date.
