Born: March 10, 1937
Died: April 13, 2014
Alan Roy Cooper went home to be with the Lord April 13, 2014 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born March 10, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA.
He lived and attended schools in Monrovia, CA. He enlisted in the US Navy Reserves USNRTC, 11th Naval District as a Seaman in 1954. He was honorably discharged in Feb. 1960 when he enlisted in the US Army, where after training at Ft Ord he was stationed in Meinham, Germany for 2 ½ years as a Spec 4th class QM Heavy Equipment Repairman.
After his discharge in Feb. 1963 he worked as a diesel mechanic before moving up to Redding, CA in 1966. His brother-in-law, Lee Hines taught him how to drive a big rig and he took to truck driving like a duck to water. He spent the rest of his life driving trucks for North State Transport, Rolleri, Youngman, and Boyd trucking companies, only retiring when he had to at age 75. He drove for Youngman for over 20 years. The best most reliable and dependable and later, the oldest driver they ever had.
Roy leaves 2 children, Nicolas Alan Cooper of Redding, and Nicole Laray Cooper of Anderson. 2 grandchildren, Kirk Patrick Garrett and Danielle Marie Garrett of Anderson. His mother who will be 102 in May, Vestelle Rainey Cooper at Marquis Care, sister Arleen Hines [Lee] of Redding, and brother Jerry Cooper [Terry] of Muldrow, Oklahoma. And many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Donald Courson Cooper and sister Linda Maxine Cornford.
He was the best Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle that anyone could hope to have. We will always remember Jeep adventures, wild boat rides, fishing and family gatherings with him and he will be greatly missed by all.
We will have a family memorial for him at a later date and he will be buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Igo.
Please sign the guestbook.
