Rodrigo “Mike” DeLira, 77 of Lompoc, California, was surrounded by his five children and wife when succumbed to his illness and joined our heavenly Father in heaven on April 6, 2014.
Rodrigo was born in Lompoc, California on May 5, 1936 to Miguel and Aurelia Arambula DeLira. He was the only boy and had three sisters, Rosie, Molly and Josie. He graduated from Lompoc High School in 1955 and served in the US Air Force from 1955 - 1959. On December 19, 1960, he married the love of his life, Mercedes Hernandez DeLira.
Rodrigo worked for John’s Manville Corporation as an electrician and was a member of La Purisima Catholic Church were he served as an alter boy during his youth. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play baseball, softball, football, soccer and wrestling. He enjoyed Barbequing, bowling and fishing.
He is survived by his children: Rodrigo (Lydia) DeLira; Steven (Elaine) DeLira; Regina (Ruben) Garcia; Alicia (Martin) Morales; and Anthony DeLira all in Lompoc. His grandchildren include: Rodrigo (Alysa) DeLira III, Los Alamos California; Daniel DeLira; Briana DeLira; Dolores (Philip) Barlow; Ruben (Mariah) Garcia; Andrew Garcia; Christopher (Lenae) Garcia, USMC San Diego California; Cameron Garcia; Charlize Garcia; Sabrina Baca, Leanna (Mike) Contreras; Stephany Baca; Anthony DeLira Jr.; and Alexis DeLira, all in Lompoc. In addition to being blessed by his children and grandchildren, he was also blessed with 11 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Rodrigo was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Aurelia DeLira and by sisters Molly Suarez and Rosie Sanchez.
The DeLira Family would like to thank the staff at UCLA Medical, Lompoc Hospital, Santa Barbara Cottage Rehabilitation Center, Santa Barbara Cottage hospital and Dr. Gilbert Anderson and his staff for their commitment to providing excellent medical care to our father.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., and the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A celebration of life for Rodrigo will take place on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 12 p.m. at La Purisima Catholic Church, followed by a burial at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery in Lompoc.
