Clarence Howard Dodd, 89 of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away, Thursday, March 27, 2014 at his home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tracy Wilson, interment will be at the Duncan Cemetery, arrangements are under the direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Family visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Clarence was born October 5, 1924 in Choctaw County, Reform Mississippi to Robert Wesley & Armanda Jane Dodd. Clarence served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. ll while serving aboard the USS Bache (Destroyer) as a signal corpman 2nd. Class, he fought in the battle of Leyte Gulf and earned several medals including the Purple Heart when he wounded from scrap metal from a Japanese airplane. After his discharg he worked at the Kraft Plant making cheese and tuning pianos for two years, he then went to work fro Sears & Roebuck in Memphis, Tenn, inthe shipping dept. ehere he met Dorothy McQuary of whom he married December 7, 1945 in Hernado, Mississippi, later on he studied to be a machinist attending Mississippi Vocation School which latter became Mississippi State University. Upon graduation Earl P. Halliburton hired him and several others to help start a cachinist shop in Duncan across from the Irving School they moved to Duncan in 1953, where he retired from Halliburton's after 32 years. Upon retirement he enjoyed camping and gardening as well as returning to Mississippi to visit relatives which he dearly loved till the day of his passing.
Survivors include sons: Glenn Dodd & his wife Lorene of Duncan, Oklahoma, Roger Dodd & his wife Tawana of Duncan, Oklahoma, grandchildren; Shannon Dodd & his wife Katherine Dodd, Tiffany & Terry Grigg, Holly & Brad Morrisett, Brad & Suzanne Dodd all of Duncan, Oklahoma great grandchildren; Trevor Grigg, Nathan Grigg, Xander Dodd, Emily Morrisett, Landen Dodd and Hayden Dodd all of Duncan, a sis-in-law; Mildred McQuary, nephew; Dewayne McQuary & wife Margarett and their children of Mississippi, nephews; KennethHowell & his wife Debbie of Yukon, Oklahoma and Lamar Howell & his wife Phyllis of Duncan, Oklahoma.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Faye and a daughter; Judy Kaye Dodd, Rhonda Faye dodd and a son ; Robert Ed Dodd, brothers; Jim & Sam Dodd and his parents; Robert Wesley & Armanda Jane Dodd
