Brother James Edward Smith departed his life Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 8:00 AM at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Lynchburg, VA on February 10, 1935. He was the son of the late Pearl Miller and Moses Smith.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Fifth Street Baptist Church. He served on the Usher Board for many years. He was a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict War.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving devoted wife of 56 years, Christine Smith, his two daughters, Sylvia Moore (Joseph) and Stephanie Massie. He also leaves to mourn his loss his brother, Moses Smith, Jr., his grandchildren, a great granddaughter, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
We all love and will greatly miss him more than words can express, but we realize that God loves him even more and has blessed him with relief from his pain and suffering. He now sleeps in peace and awaits the resurrection to life free of all illness or death as God our creator has promised.
A funeral service will be held noon, Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Fifth Street Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Joseph D. Moore, officiating and Rev. Dr. Gary Harmon, eulogist. Interment will be in the Baptist Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post 16. The family is receiving friends from 7-8pm, Friday, March 21, 2014 at Community Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 902 Brentwood Ave. The cortege will assemble at the residence.
