Mary Martha Solomon-Wordelman, 81, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb.
Born January 15, 1933, in Greeneville, Tennessee, the daughter of John and Thelma (Bible) Hicks, Mary married John Donald Wordelman.
A homemaker most recently, Mary was formerly the secretary for Solomon Sandblasting in DeKalb and then DeKalb Foursquare Church. She also was an artist, having done many oil paintings, and an avid gardener. Mary also loved to play cards and backgammon.
She is survived by her husband, James; children, Brandon (Cindy) Solomon of Portland, Oregon, Roger (Patty) Solomon of DeKalb, Kevin (Launi) Solomon of Phoenix, Arizona, Andrew Solomon Jr. of DeKalb and Jodi Kilani of Aurora; stepchildren, Carl (Sachie) Wordelman and Jennifer (Jeff) Larson; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, John (Billie) Hicks; sisters, Shirley (Jerry) Condo, Trella (Charles) White and Hazelean (Fox) Linebarger; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Emma Guerassio.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, at DeKalb Foursquare Church, 210 Grove Street, with Pastor Dennis Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
