Deacon Edward C. Jaroszewski, 82, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains, passed Monday, March 10, 2014.
A funeral Mass will be held 11 am Friday at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, Pompton Plains. Visiting hours will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, 155 West Parkway, Pompton Plains. Cremation will be private.
Born in Bayonne, Edward was the son of Edward Francis and Anna Jaroszewski. After graduating Bayonne High School, Edward entered Polytechnic Institute of New York University to study aeronautical engineering. While in college he was called to serve in the Unites States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Theresa Soneck. The couple lived briefly in Bayonne before settling in Pompton Plains in 1957.
Edward earned his B.S. in aeronautical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York University, and later his M.S. in economics from the University of Maryland. He retired from Picatinny Arsenal after a 42 year career in engineering and management.
Edward was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church in Pompton Plains. He was ordained a deacon on June 11, 1978 - the first deacon to serve at the parish.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Theresa of 60 years; his daughters, Diane Alario, and Robin Gullifer and her husband Michael; his grandchildren, Matthew Alario and his wife Jennifer, Ryan Brosnan, and Staci Alario; and his adored great-granddaughter, Ainsley Alario. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Jaroszewski. He was predeceased by his brothers, Walter Jaroszewski and his wife Barbara, and Peter Jaroszewski.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Edward's memory to Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church or to the American Cancer Society.
