Died: February 15, 2014
Terrance E. McGovern of Downers Grove passed away peacefully on February 15, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer. Terry was born in Chicago on March 20, 1947, the son of Ann and Edward McGovern. Soon after high school he began working at the Continental Bank but he eventually developed a keen interest in psychology and began working toward a degree in that field. In 1990 he received his Ph.D. in psychology from Loyola University and shortly thereafter he started a private practice specializing in neuropsychology and vocational testing. Terry had a wide variety of interests including classical guitar, gourmet cooking, raising orchids, science and writing fiction. He loved animals (especially his dog Jonty and cat Winston), nature, hiking and travel and he and his wife took many trips within the United States as well as to Europe and Africa. Terry was known for his friendliness, his intellect, his sense of humor, and his strong sense of justice and fairness to all. Terry leaves his wife and best friend Linda Applegate McGovern, his sister Cheryl Muzinic, and his niece and nephews Jennifer, Jason, Brian, David and Justin Muzinic. A memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, March 7 at 4 PM at the Morton Arboretum, Thornhill Education Center, 4100 IL Route 53, Lisle, IL 60532.
