Max R. Monette Jr., age 71 of Holton, passed away Saturday morning, January 25, 2014 at the Leila and Cyrus Poppen Residence in Muskegon. Max was born on Aug. 13, 1942 in Holton to Max R. and M. Margaret (Matthews) Monette Sr. and graduated from Holton High School. Max later received his B.S. from Western Michigan University and Master’s Degree from Michigan State University. Max had been a teacher at Reeths Puffer Public Schools from 1964 – 1968 and then taught at Muskegon Community College from 1968 until his retirement in 1998. Max married Ruth Church on Aug. 6, 1966 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Max was a lifelong member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church where he had been a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, active with the St. Michaels School and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Max’s true love however was for our Lord, his wife, children and grandchildren.

Max is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ruth; his daughters and grandchildren, Jodee (Tom) Tuttle of North Muskegon and their children, Chandler and Riley; Lisa (Michael) Stern of Flower Mound, Texas and their children, Tyler, Max, and Lindsay; his brothers and sister, Peg (Ray) Knight of Holton; Elaine Coburn of Twin Lake; John (Bonnie) Monette of Twin Lake; Tom (Jan) Monette of Holton; Tracy (Bernie) Powers of Byron Center; brothers & sisters-in-laws, Ken (Betty) Church of Brunswick; Tom (Kathy) Church of Grand Rapids; Ann (Keith) Carpenter of Grand Rapids; Linda Maitland of Holton; Janet Burdette of Montague; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Bill and Kay Boike. Max was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Margaret; his mother and father-in-law, Harold and Marie Church; his nieces, Erika Honore, Tami Anible and nephew, Michael Carpenter.

INTERMENT : St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Harbor Hospice for the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Residence or the St. Michaels Catholic Church Memorial Garden. Friends are encouraged to share their memories of Max by sending notes to the family.
