Robert (Bob) Kassis, the dedicated father of Charles, Angela, and Robert, passed away suddenly at the age 79 on Thursday, December 19, 2013. He was a life-long resident of Redding and well respected in the community.
He was born to the late Michael and Sarah Kassis in Redding, where he graduated from Shasta High School and Shasta College.
Bob began his career with Caltrans in 1955 as an Engineering Aid. Then in 1956, he joined the Army, as an Aircraft maintenance mechanic. Upon completion of his military duty, he resumed his career with Caltrans, which spanned almost 45 years.
Bob was an active member in the Redding community. He served as a member on the Board of Directors, was President of various divisions and served as a manager and coach for Redding Youth Baseball bridging over 15 years. He was also an associate member of the Sons of Italy and past member of both, the Elks Club and the Moose Lodge.
Bob was a very active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1934 and had served as the Post Commander of the Springs Post #7169. He found great joy in staging the flags around Redding and in his work with the ceremonial proceedings at fellow Veterans' services.
Bob enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Bob loved to read mystery novels and always enjoyed watching the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers. Bob was an excellent cook and loved sharing his passion for Lebanese cuisine with his family. He had a green thumb and grew the most delicious tomatoes and vegetables.
This past week we have lost a wonderful man who will be remembered and loved every day by his extended family and close friends who were blessed with knowing him.
Bob is survived by his brother Raymond (Sharon) Kassis; his three children Charles (Elizabeth) Kassis of Modesto; Angela (Terry) Terhorst of Palo Cedro; and Robert (Stacy) Kassis of Sacramento and his seven grandchildren; Danielle, Hannah, Lyle, Riley, Luke, Lindsey and Emily.
He was preceded in death by his father Michael, mother Sarah, his sister Barbara Moses and grandson Logan.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to VFW post 1934.
