David S. Hosch, 76, of 10179 Richland Rd., Monticello, Iowa, died Thursday at 9:53 p.m., December 19, 2013 in Dubuque at Mercy Medical Center.
Friends and relatives may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a wake service will be at 4:00 p.m.
Services for David will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2013 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.
David was born May 2, 1937 in Monticello, Iowa, son of Al and Margaret (Weber) Hosch. He received his education St. Mary’s School. On April 12, 1958, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Farley, he was united in marriage to Mildred “Mitzie” Smith. After 2 years of welding work at Energy in Monticello, he took over the family farm, before semi-retiring to hobby farming with his exotic animals.
David enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He also loved playing cards with the other “Old Boars” at the “Nest.” As well as playing other games with his family and teasing his grandchildren.
David was a member of the St. Peters Parish. He was also a member of the Cascade Sportsman’s Club and the Iowa Whitetail Deer Association.
He is survived by his wife; Mildred “Mitzie” Hosch of Cascade, IA; five children; Debby Hosch of Monticello, IA, Linda (Dan) Boehm of Rock Island, IL, Todd (Mary) Hosch, Nancy (Dave Paisley) Mullins both of Cascade, IA, and Peg (Kevin) Miles of Hopkinton, IA; 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; two brothers Allan (Joan) Hosch Cascade, IA, Steve (Jo Ann) Hosch of Epworth, IA; three sisters; Sister Joan Hosch O.S.F. of Dubuque,IA, Sister Margie Hosch O.S.F. of Taylors, SC and Ann (Sol) Salamone of Green Lawn, NY; brother and sister-in-laws; Virgil Smith, Sally Coyle both of Cascade, IA, Margie Frank, Karen and Kay Smith all of Dubuque, IA, Charlie Hoefer of Epworth, Iowa, Melvin Liebold of Dubuque, IA and Veda Smith of Clinton, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Ruth Schell and Marilyn Mangino, Brother and Sister-in-laws; Virgina Liebold, Lavonne Hoefer, Jim Smith, Darlene “Dutch” (Pauley) Lehman, Carl Frank, Mary Smith, Melvin Coyle.
