George Michael Monarque, 84, of Lakewood, formerly of Pompton Lakes. died Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Ocean Medical Center in Brick.
Born on November 10, 1928, he was raised in Paterson. George proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After marrying his wife Joan, the couple settled in Pompton Lakes, where they lived for 35 years and raised five children. After retiring from the Country Club Corp. in Totowa, where he worked as an ice cream salesman for more than 40 years, the couple retired to Leisure Village East in Lakewood.
George is lovingly survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Cynthia Monarque and her partner David, Kenneth and his wife Julia, Nancy DeMaio and her husband Dennis, George and his wife Donna, and Linda LaVerme and her husband James; his sister, Dorothy Gaffney; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren (and a sixth due in January).
A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's RC Church, Pompton Lakes. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
