Emmett Paul “Smokey” McCormick, 78, Bruceville, passed away Wednesday October 30, 2013 at his residence. Emmett was born September 7, 1935, in Decker, the son of Floyd Emmett and Irene (Huffer) McCormick. He married Rita Faye Johnson on April 20, 1969. Before retiring as a truck driver, Emmett worked for Vincennes paper mill as a beater engineer. He was a member of the Bruceville Christian Church. He also is an avid Cardinal’s basefall fan, as well as Pacers and IU basketball.
Emmett is survived by his wife, Rita; daughter Debbie Hutchinson and her husband Mark of Middleburg, FL; sons Fred McCormick and his wife Angie of Vincennes, Rev. Steve McCormick and his wife Theresa of Mt. Washington, KY, and Aaron McCormick and his wife Jennifer of Shawnee, OK; grandchildren, Megan McCormick, Matthew McCormick, Katie McCormick, Taylor Hutchinson, Trevor Hutchinson, Blaise McCormick, Maczenie McCormick, Kaelyn McCormick, Justice C.J. McCormick and Caden Paul McCormick; two great-grandchildren; and sisters Della Strate of Vincennes and Elizabeth Schatz and her husband David of Decker.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Paul Eugene McCormick.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday November 6, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Bruceville Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Bruceville Christian Church with Pastor Glenn Turner and Rev.
