Arthur H. Freeburg, 85, was ushered into the presence of his Lord, on Friday morning, October 11, 2013. There, he heard “Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”

Art was born to Earnest & Gertrude Freeburg, the first generation American, on September 5, 1928 in Evanston, IL. He grew up in Evanston where his father worked at Northwestern University. He attended Bob Jones University where he met Colleen Patricia Hanley and married in 1948. That same year, Art graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Midwest Bible College, St. Louis, MO.

Art had a heart for ministry and began that ministry in Nome, Alaska in 1950 as a missionary to the native Alaskans nine years before Alaska was a state. After his return to the lower 48, Art pastored churches in McClure, IL, Jeffrey Manor, IL, Hinsdale, IL, Kiron, IA, Denver, CO and San Jose, CA. In 1979, Art was called to be the Executive Director of the Midwest Baptist Conference, a network of over 80 churches in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Southern Wisconsin.

After his retirement in 1993, Art continued in ministry serving as an interim pastor at seven different churches.

Art is survived by his wife of 65 years, Colleen, daughter Rebecca Roth (Eldon) of Mountain Home, AR and sons Arthur H. Jr (Pam) of Farmington, MO, Daniel of St. Paul, MN and Jonathan (Robin) of Ottawa, IL. Survivors also include three grandsons, six granddaughters and seven great grandchildren.

Visitation for Art will be from 9AM until noon, Friday, October 18, 2013 at Orchard Community Church, 1330 N Douglas Ave, Arlington Heights, IL with the service to follow at noon. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights, IL.
