Ervin Walter Christensen was born at home on Cherry Rd. just outside of Bear Creek on Feb. 7 1927 to Walter and Anna Christensen. At the age of 16, Ervin set out for Minneapolis, MN, to take a job working in a bakery where he remained until he was drafted. Ervin ended up serving 21½ years in the US Army and was stationed in Japan, North Korea where he was ambushed, Germany, Texas, and Fort Lewis in Washington. While in Japan, Ervin met and married his first wife, Misa and together they had eight children. Ervin settled in Tacoma, Wash., and worked as a mess steward in the kitchen. After retirement from the military, he owned and operated his own automotive shop, "A-1 Garage" in Tacoma, WA. Ervin was united in marriage on August 7, 1970 to Barbara J. Beaber in Montesano, WA.

The Christensen's had a large family, as Barbara also had four children of her own. The couple were busy with not only their children, but they also housed a handful of foreign exchange students from Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Denmark and one of Indian descent who was from Germany. In 1980, the couple elected to move back to Wisconsin to be closer to their family. After returning to Wisconsin Ervin spent his time driving school bus as well as driving workers around for Flanagan's. Ervin got to work and crafted a large-scale replica of an 1875 Baldwin train. He also constructed a large-scale wooden plane from plans he had since childhood. He continued on with crafting a replica of a lathe, as well as a flathead V-8. Ervin enjoyed doing puzzles, repairing cars, wood & metal crafting, playing cards, with pinochle as a favorite. He was a proud life member of the VFW Post #2663 of Bear Creek.

He is survived by his wife Barabara; his children, Gene of Bear Creek, John in California, Alton, Charles (Jewels), Frank (Masayo), Irene, Ruth (Sean), Ruby, Julie (Bouahn) Syaphonh, all in Washington. There are step children; Marcella (Curtis) Thompson of Clintonville, Rodney (Rita) Beaber of Waupaca, David (Jessica) Beaber of Bear Creek, and Kathleen (Mark) Wilke of Clintonville. There are 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. There is a sister Iva Stark of Oshkosh, and 3 brothers, Stanley (Darlene) of Oshkosh, Robert in Oregon, and Leonard in Arizona. Ervin is preceded by death by his parents, his first wife, Misa, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and 2 grandsons.
