Jean “Joan” (Kerns) Richter, 79, of Freelandville, went into God’s Kingdom September 25, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born February 10, 1934 to George and Ruby (Blair) Kerns. She graduated from Freelandville High School, and married Gerald Paul Richter on March 26, 1961.
Joan attended the Freelandville Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and very active in various community activities. She volunteered in the Freelandville Community Home socials and Freelandville improvement club events, and she provided assisted-living duties when called upon by members of the community. Joan loved to sew, quilt, needlepoint, and crochet items for herself as well as for family and friends. She spent lots of time in her garden and with plants and flowers. However, Joan still had time to cook candy specialties, bake desserts, and breads, and preserve garden produce.
Surviving are her daughters, Kathy Elliott and her husband Ed, Joyce Cornelison and her husband Kevin, Janet Hunt and her husband Greg, Marilyn Jordan and her husband Scott; her son George and his significant other Cristel Kinney; eight grandchildren, Ashley and her husband Randy Archer, Erin and husband Ian Barrett, Jeff and Amy Hunt, Will, Matt, evan and Campbell Jordan; and two great-grandchildren Kaleb and Avery Archer.
Her parents, husband, and an infant daughter, Diane, preceded her.
Funeral services will be held on 12:30 Saturday September 28, 2013 at Bethel Church, 13673 East State Road 58. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday September 27, 2013 at Bethel Church. Arrangements were handled by Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Bicknell Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Church Cemetery Fund, the Freelandville Methodist Church, or Freelandville Improvement Club/Center.
