Robert Allen Tharp, age 68, of Edwards, MO., formerly of Lee’s Summit, passed away suddenly Monday, September 16, 2013, at his home. He was born in West Virginia on June 27, 1945, the son of Warren Samuel and Virginia Grace Tharp.
He grew up in West Virginia and graduated from high school. In 1964 he enlisted into the United States Army serving his country during the Vietnam War.
He was married to Priscilla Brooks on August 20, 1977 in Blue Springs, MO. They made their home in Kansas City, Missouri. Priscilla preceded him in death on May 14, 1984. Robert was a truck driver working for National Steel hauling steel throughout the country. He was employed by them for over 20 years, retiring in 2001.
On October 27, 2000, he was united in marriage to Judy Cox at her home in Raymore, MO. They made their home in both the Lee’s Summit and Edwards communities. Robert loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing. He would move from the patch to the lake house depending on the season.
Robert was a member of the Independence Masonic Lodge #76 of Independence, MO, the Kansas City Valley of the Scottish Rite and the Ararat Shine where for many years he was a Provost and a member of the Shrine Trike Riders He enjoyed riding his trike in many parades around the state with the Shriner’s. He was also a member of Shriner’s International. He was a member of the Amateur Trap Shooters and the Missouri Trap Shooters Association.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Ronald Tharp.
Surviving is his wife, Judy, of their home in Lee’s Summit, his mother, Virginia Tharp of Caldwell, West Virginia, his buddy and “adopted” grandson, Wyatt Wohlleber of Lee’s Summit, his faithful Jack Russell, known as T-Bone, two brothers, Lester Thomas Tharp of Caldwell, West Virginia and Billy Tharp of Burlington, Kentucky, three sisters, Linda Rutherford of Fairlea, Vest Virginia, Evelyn Lewis, of Renick, West Virginia and Barbara Hughes of Reno, Nevada, a sister-in-law, Beulah Weter of Warsaw and nephews, Roger Weter, and wife, Miriam, and Russel Weter, all of Warsaw, step-children, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral and Masonic services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO. Burial with military honors will be in the Fristoe Cemetery, Fristoe, MO. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., Saturday at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO.
