Claribel Cully, 99, of Jacksonville, IL died Friday, August 30, 2013, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.
She was born August 13, 1914 in Morgan County, the daughter of Edgar O. and Effie O. Cox Cully.
She is survived by a cousin, Teryl Piggott (husband, Bill) of Champaign. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Isabel Norfleet, and three brothers, Lloyd, Byron and Albert Cully.
Miss Cully was a 1936 graduate of Illinois College and later attended graduate school at the University of Illinois. She taught business for high school children in Walnut, IL for 20 years and later in Virginia, IL for 16 years. Her career in education was interrupted during her two years of service at the Green River Ordinance Plant in Dixon, IL during WW II. In retirement, she served as a volunteer for many years at Passavant Hospital.
Claribel was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Delta Kappa Gamma International Teachers Organization, and Chapter I.O. of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. In 1990, she was named a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award at Illinois College.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, September 5, 2013, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 am Thursday until the time of services.
