John S. Bisaccio

Died: August 26, 2013


John S. Bisaccio of Wanaque, previously of Riverdale, passed peacefully to the care of Jesus on August 26, 2013, at age 82 of Parkinson’s Disease.



John was born in Riverdale to Saverio (Sam) Bisaccio and Mary (Evangelista) Bisaccio and served on the Riverdale Borough Council for four years.  He graduated from Butler High School and the Newark School of Fine & Industrial Arts.  He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for two years, then on active duty in the U. S. Navy for two years in Washington, DC, handling Top Secret messages during the Korean conflict. John worked full-time as a gyro assembler at Singer-Kearfott while attending Seton Hall University as a full-time day student where he earned his B.A. in Accounting.  He held various positions in accounting, mostly as a Supervisor of Accounts Payable.



John’s athletic skills were demonstrated in baseball, on the Riverdale Rangers and his high school team; he also bowled, fished and hunted.  He played the clarinet in the high school band and various marching bands, including the American Legion Band, the Bloomingdale Cornet Band, where he was Secretary-Treasurer (business manager) for 25 years, and later with the Jacksonville Chapel Concert Band. John was an active member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pompton Plains for many years and served as a Eucharistic Minister; after moving to Wanaque, he attended St. Francis of Assisi Church.



John is survived by his wife, Martha (Shough) of 55 years and their children, Marie (Ree), Anthony, John Jr. and his wife, Liz, and their children Kyle and Brianne Bisaccio.  John was predeceased by his brother Sam Jr. (2002) and brother-in-law Neil De Fazio (2010).  His sister, Marie De Fazio and sister-in-law Barbara Bisaccio, niece Annemarie Hollenback and nephew Michael Bisaccio and their families also survive him.



 A funeral Mass will be held 10 am Friday, August 30 at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, Pompton Plains.  Interment will follow at the First Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Plains.  Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Thursday at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.



In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital would be greatly appreciated by his family.
