James Willmar Miketey

Born: July 02, 1938
Died: August 20, 2013

U.S. VeteranJames Willmar Miketey

“Mickey” or “Jim” passed away from us on August 20, 2013. He had just celebrated his 75th birthday on July 2nd. Born and raised in the Ice Box of the Nation (International Falls, Minnesota), Jim may have had cold hands but he always had a warm heart. He was a very strong man both in faith and in character.

With only a GED, Jim went on to proudly serve his country as a pilot in the Air Force from 1957 to 1961 (4 years). He was part of the Strategic Air Command in the Korean War where he flew a KC97 (refueler) and a B29 (bomber). After his service, Jim joined both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. As an honor, Jim will be laid to rest at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.

Jim was the person everybody in town went to if they needed something repaired. He loved to take things apart and could fix anything from a doorbell to a car to a snow blower. He loved to “tinker” and quite often you would hear his bass voice drifting out of the garage as he was completing a project.

Jim and his wife, Phyllis, were just a few months shy of celebrating their 48th wedding anniversary. Family was very important to Jim and they were successful in raising two daughters: Janice Freeman and Jennifer Bahr. Jim also insisted on calling David Bahr, Jennifer’s husband, his son. (Son-in-law was never an option.) Jim was very proud of all his grandchildren: Daniel (Little Mickey), Alia, Jessica, Bethanie (Cheetah-Monkey), and Christopher. Jim’s siblings are Margaret Scheirer, Eileen Bishop and Larry Miketey.

Jim is preceded in death by both his mother and father, Anna Eluke and Pete Miketey, along with his brother, Peter Alexander Miketey.

Jim passed away from us quickly as a result of his ongoing battle with chronic heart failure and pulmonary fibrosis. His loving, giving spirit will be greatly missed by everyone he touched.
