Luke A. Bowe, 81, of 7772 County Hwy B, Chippewa Falls, town of Tilden, died Friday, August 9, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born April 7, 1932 in Tilden, the son of George and Helen (Zwiefelhofer) Bowe. He graduated from St. Peter’s Catholic Grade School in Tilden and served in the U.S. Army.
On October 18, 1955 he married Helen Derks at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer. They farmed in Tilden his entire life. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Tilden.
Luke was very dedicated to the town of Tilden with 42 years of service on the town board and the majority of these years were served as the town chairman. He was a member of the Tilden Volunteer Fire Department, Tilden Lions and NFO. He also sold Kussmaul Seed Corn for many years.
Luke is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Helen Bowe; five children, Colleen (Bryon) Schemenauer, Rhonda (David) Schemenauer, Lee (Charlene) Bowe, Loren (Kristin) Bowe and Lisa (Raymond) Horton; 14 grandchildren, Melissa (Tyrus) Schleppenbach, Ryan (Sarah) Schemenauer, Nicole (Jason) Flackey, Kristin (Cory Braswell) Schemenauer, Mollie (Chris) Wolf, Luke Bowe, Shawn and Mitchel Schemenauer, Alexa and Jordan Bowe, Hunter Horton, Kyle Bowe and Jacob and Justin Horton; four great grandchildren, Max, Madeline and Samuel Schleppenbach and Leland Wolf; also survived one brother, Roland (Donetta) Bowe and six sisters, Merita Schmidt, Valeria Bohl, Bernadette Sikora, Donna Benish, Blanche (Pete) Loew and Dorothy (Robert) Turner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Emery Bowe; one sister, Philomene Bowe; five brothers-in-law, Bernard Bowe, Henry Schmidt, Gilbert Sikora, Arthur Bohl and Marvin Benish; his mother and father-in-law, Henry and Verona Derks; and his Godson, Craig Loew.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Tilden with the Very Rev. Ed Shuttleworth officiating and assisted by Deacon Dan Rider. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Tilden. Military rites will be conducted by the Bloomer V.F.W. and the American Legion.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 12 and one hour before the time of services on Tuesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Tilden. There will be a Christian vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church.
Luke enjoyed hunting deer and fox, fishing for whatever bites, playing cards and telling stories.
