Cristine A. “Wells” Akan, 61 of Rhinelander died unexpectedly on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Rennes Rehabilitation Center in Rhinelander.
She was born June 30, 1952 in Chippewa Falls, the daughter of the late Clifford and Joyce (Johnson) Wells. Cris graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1970.
Cristine and Bill Akan were married in Eau Claire on October 29, 1988. She worked in Directory Assistance for 27 years, first in Eau Claire and later in Oshkosh, retiring in 1999.
She and her husband Bill moved from Oshkosh to Rhinelander in 2009. Cris volunteered at Nativity of Our Lord Thrift Store until the time of her illness. She was an excellent chef and loved to cook, especially for a large group of people. She also was a very talented seamstress along with her other pastimes of working with stained glass, making quilts and pottery. Many of her projects adorn the home of friends and relatives.
Cris is survived by her loving husband, Bill “Tex”, a brother, David (Sandy) Wells of Rochester, Minn.; a sister, Susan Wells of Eau Claire and numerous nieces and nephews.
In her short time here on earth she enriched the lives of all who knew her. She will be sadly missed.
A Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 19 at the Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls. Visitation will be from 11a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
