U.S. VeteranGeorge William Brooks, 90, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin. He was born on February 23, 1923 in Jennings County, Indiana to Tyra William Brooks and Nola Marie (McDowell) Brooks Klein.. He married Francis Nealis Brooks. She preceded him in passing in June, 1985. . She preceded him in passing. He later married Virginia B. (Jones) Brooks in November, 1992. She lovingly survives in Franklin. Other survivors include three daughters, Judith Ann Clubb of Indianapolis; Charita De Witt and Ruth (Joe) Spalding of ; six grandchildren, Rebecca Traylor and Michael Moore; Stephen Foster, Larry DeWitt, David DeWitt and Bryan DeWitt; ten great-grandchildren, Shawn, Ashley, Aaron, Cheyenne, Odin and Rowan; Noah and Nick and Drake and Kendallynn and four great- great-grandchildren, Ronnie & Lillian; Gavin, Jace & Brielle. He is also survived by one sister, Alice Ann Dykes of Georgetown, Kentucky. He was preceded in passing by his parents, wife, Francis and brother, Clarance LeRoy Brooks. He was a graduate from Vernon High School. George served during World War II as Tank Commander in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, European Theater of Operation and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a life member of the DAV. He retired in 1995 from Hall and House as an estimater. He also worked at Davidson's Lumber; Greenwood Lumber, Bernett Benford Caselton Lumber Company and Lowes. He was a member of the Franklin Church of the Nazarene and cherished his many friends there. George loved his family and all his family loved him so very much. His hobbies were fishing and deer hunting. He also loved to work in the yard and garden. George enjoyed working with wood and made many toys for his grandchildren. After retiring, he enjoyed painting. Pastor Max Downs will conduct a service on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted at Greenlawn Cemetery on Saturday.
