Donald R. Cruzan, age 95 of White Cloud, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at his home following a short illness. Donald was born on November 30, 1917 in Northloop, Nebraska to Ira and Ruth (Babcock) Cruzan and has been a lifelong resident of the White Cloud area. Donald married Shirley Davis on November 17, 1945 in Colorado and Shirley preceded him in death on March 25, 2004. In their younger years, Donald and Shirley had enjoyed traveling across the United States, camping along the way. Donald had owned and operated Cruzan Builders with his brother and had been a carpenter and builder his entire life. He was an active member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in White Cloud where he became a deacon on December 4, 1948 to the present and had served as treasurer from October 1943 until July 1988. Donald had also served on the White Cloud School Board for 10 years. Donald had recently enjoyed latch hooking, needle point, playing Uno with his grandchildren and had enjoyed fishing in his younger years. Donald served in the United States Army during World War II where he was part of 2 “D” Day invasions at Salerno, Italy and Riviera, Southern France and served as an ambulance driver in 5 major campaigns. He was also a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal.
Donald is survived by his children, Sam (Sandy) Cruzan of White Cloud; Janis (John) May of Walker; 5 grandchildren, Lee (Stephanie) Cruzan; Rebekah (Scott) Kukal; Todd (Bobbie) Cruzan; Troy (Megan) Cruzan; Stacy (Ben) VanderMolen; 13 ½ great grandchildren; his sisters and brothers, Marvin (Jackie) Cruzan of White Cloud; Irvin Cruzan of Fremont; Doris Peck of Colorado; Marvel Krumbach of Colorado; Harvey (Carol) Cruzan of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Carol Cruzan on October 12, 2012; his sister, Joyce Shick and his brother, Marion Cruzan.
VISITATION : Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 4-7pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – White Cloud Chapel. MEMORIAL SERVICES : Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 2pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – White Cloud Chapel. INTERMENT : White Cloud Cemetery.
