R. Wayne Allesso Jr.

Born: June 26, 1975
Died: June 17, 2013

R. Wayne Allessio, Jr. was born June 26, 1975 to Randy Sr. & Marianne Allessio. Wayne was raised in Walla Walla and graduated in 1994 from Wa-Hi. While in high school, Wayne was very active in FFA where he competed in tractor driving. He and his teammates placed 1st in the state. On his 19th birthday, June 26, 1994, Wayne left for Chicago to attend basic Navy Boot Camp. He graduated basic training and was assigned to the USS New Orleans as a MM3 Machinist Mate and worked on the boilers for the ship. In 1998, when the Navy decommissioned the New Orleans, he became a plank holder of the USS Bonhomme Richard. While in the Navy, he had smuggled a Koala Bear (stuffed) from Australia for his niece, Morgan.

Wayne loved the Navy and was going to make a career of his service but Multiple Sclerosis attacked him in 1999. He was honorably and medically retired from the Navy in early 2000. Upon discharge, he resumed a relationship with Caitlin Durkee and together they had a son, Carson Allessio.

After discharge from the Navy, Wayne worked at the WSP on the boilers until his MS progressed to the point he could no longer work. Wayne took great pride in coaching his son’s indoor soccer team. Having looked forward to coaching many of Carson’s sports teams, the indoor soccer allowed Wayne to fulfill at least part of his dream.

For many years, Wayne worked beside his Dad in the arena at the Pendleton Round-Up as part of the famous “Fence Crew” where Wayne met his idol, Ty Murray. In the arena, he spent time with Luke Perry when Luke was getting prepared to make the movie “8 Seconds” which was about famous rodeo star, Lane Frost.

Wayne loved fishing, hunting, camping and everything outdoors. His wonderful friends, Tavis & Joey, would carry him to the really good fishing spots when he could no longer get there himself. He was an animal lover, and MANY times brought home a stray or 2, (or more). He loved spending time at the Blue playing Black Jack.

Wayne is survived by a wife, Ann; his son, Carson; his parents, a sister, Kati Jo Allessio; nieces, Morgan & Bailey Knapp; his grandmother, Tina Jones and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life potluck is planned for Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Trinity Baptist Church, 595 Abbott Rd. Military Honors will take place at 1:15 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the MS Society to help fight and cure this horrible disease through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
