Richard Hubert Hoenck passed away May 14, 2013 at the age of 75 in Gilroy. Richard was born to George and Katherine Hoenck where he was raised on the family ranch, in Gilroy, with his brothers Robert Hoenck, Hubert Hoenck and honorary brother Lorens Midtgaard.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Deanna Hoenck daughters Linda “Birddog” Figone (Joey Santos) of Gilroy, Barbara Lemberger (Steve) of Gilroy, Lisa Dike (Randy) of Hollister, Nancy Alvarez (Charlie) of Hollister, Denise Jensen of Rancho Cucamonga, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren 3 nieces and a very special nephew Bobby and his beloved cat “Gato”.
Richard led a very fulfilling life. He grew up in the Adam’s 4-H where he raised livestock and earned his All*Star rank. He was a Gilroy High School Graduate of 1956. While in high school, Rich was involved with the Gilroy FFA, where he earned the State Farmer degree and raised livestock. He was drafted into the army where he drove truck while stationed in France and was honorably discharged during the Cuban Conflict. He worked for Trevis Berry Transportation for over 46 years. He started working for the Berry’s while in high school and after being discharged from the army returned to work there until retirement in September 2001. After retiring from truck driving Richard found himself driving again but this time his passion of driving trains. He worked 9 seasons for Bonfante / Gilroy Gardens and a few seasons for Uesugi Farms. He was a member of the Hollister Elk’s Lodge and had a passion for the Raiders and A’s and would hardly miss a chance to watch his girls play softball. He made a huge effort to make the fairs where his daughter Linda and later on her girls, Breanna, Adrianna and Julianna followed in his footsteps of showing livestock.
Richard made friends everywhere he went. Once you meet him you were a friend for life. He will be deeply missed as a daily patron at Costco’s Food Court as he would sit and have his polish dog and where he has made MANY wonderful friends.
The family would like to thank Drs, Lucero, Omron and Prasad and Saint Louise Hospital and staff for the excellent care he received during the last year and a half. You are all like family.
Visitation Monday, May 20, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Habing Family Funeral Home.
Funeral Services Tuesday, May 21, 2013 - 11:00 AM at the Gilroy Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Avenue, Gilroy.
Reception will follow.
Burial will be at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery at a later date and will be announced.
Richard has always requested at his funeral he didn’t want anything fancy, no dressing up and wanted everyone in jeans and boots if you have them. The family is requesting everyone to grant him his last wish and ask everyone where jeans and boots.
