Mary Kathryn Barron, 67, Vincennes, passed away at 5:50 PM on Monday May 6, 2013 at the New Willow Manor. She had been in failing health for several years and was very fond of her caregivers on D Wing. She was born on Father’s Day, June 17, 1945. She was the youngest of three children and the only daughter of Albert Lee and Lucille (Kinaman) Brown. She attended St. Peter and St. Paul Cathedral and their grammar school, then went to St. Agnes Academy and Shortridge High School. She moved to the Vincennes area the last week of December 1974 with the Cederlund family. Later, she worked at Charlie’s Cafe. She went to to work at the KCARC and worked there for 28 years, retiring in 2001. She loved working with the clients and helping them learn. She was an avid reader and loved watching TV. She was always telling jokes and laughing. She married David Barron on February 4, 1978 and he preceded her in death. Also, preceding her in death were her parents and a significant other, Louie Pierce.
Mary is survived by her children, daughter Joanne Hargraves and her husband John, of Arnold, MO; son, Jeffrey Alan Barron and his wife Mona of Colorado Springs, CO; step-son Adam Barron and his wife Stacey of Vincennes; brothers, Jerry Lee Brown of Oakland, CA, and Robert Lee Brown and his wife Linda of Springfield, IL; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a life long friend (and sister by choice), Sherrill Cederlund and helper Mary Krohn; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday May 10, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Vincennes Chapel, 313 Church St. Funeral services will be held Saturday May 11, 2013 at 1:00 PM also at the funeral home with Rev. Dave Fleck officiating and burial following at Memorial Park Cemetery. Since Mary was an animal lover, the family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vincennes Pet Port or Knox County Humane Society.
