Mahlon E. Cassel - 87, of Souderton, Pennsylvania went home to be with his Lord on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.
He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth (Bergey) Cassel for 60 years. Mahlon was born in Line Lexington, Pennsylvania to the late Mahlon & Elsie (Detweiler) Cassel.
He was employed at Hatfield Quality Meats for 37 years. Mahlon was a member of Generations in Souderton.
He loved raising sheep, gardening and spending time and visiting with his family. Mahlon and his wife enjoyed traveling to visit their children and friends in Mexico, Haiti, Burkina Faso, Brazil and Canada. He and Elizabeth also enjoyed entertaining international guests at their home. Mahlon volunteered at the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes and Meals on Wheels. He and his wife also volunteered in Florida and Alaska with SOOP.
Mahlon was a life member of Line Lexington Mennonite Church where he served as a former Sunday school teacher, Sunday school Superintendent and trustee.
He is survived by his four daughters, Lucille Weaver of Perkasie, PA, Esther Mast & husband, Darrel of Lancaster, PA, Beth Kolb & husband, Paul of Spring City, PA, Marilyn Hanger & husband, Kirk of Alexandria, VA; his son, Timothy Cassel & wife, Cheryl of Harrisonburg, VA; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; his brother, Gerald Cassel & wife, Shirley of Mount Pleasant, MI and his sister, Janet Gane & husband, Fred of Telford, PA;
In addition to his parents and wife, Mahlon was preceded in death by his son, James B. Cassel and his sister, Doris Parmer.
Viewings will be held on Monday, April 8, 2013 at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 West Summit Street, Souderton, PA from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Line Lexington Mennonite Church, 80 Hilltown Pike, Line Lexington, Pennsylvania 18932 from 1:00 pm – 2:00.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Line Lexington Mennonite Church.
Burial will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
