William Arnold Downie

William Arnold Downie of Davison age 82, died Wednesday March 6, 2013 at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. Honoring his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday March 16, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church of Lapeer, 433 Calhoun St. Lapeer, Michigan. Those desiring may make contributions in William’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church. William was born in Spruce Michigan April 27, 1930 the son of the late William and Mandy (Rasmussen) Downie. While serving in the Army during the Korean War William was joined in marriage to Dolores Kaiser on August 31, 1951 in Columbia, South Carolina. William retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1981 after thirty-ones years as a pattern maker. That same year William and Dolores became resident managers of Lakeside Towers, a high rise senior apartment complex in Sterling Heights, operated by National Church Residences, working there together for twelve years. They relocated to the Davison area in the late 1990’s. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of over fifty years, Dolores. Sons: Keith (Andrea) Downie, Kevin Downie, and Kurtis Downie. Grandchildren: Megan, Philip and Tera, Sister Loraine and a host of other relatives. He is preceded in death by brothers: Everette, Ray, Jim, Allen, Norman, John and Sisters Gladys and Dorothy. In September 1987 William wrote: “We must capture the spirit of Christ that says life is forever; in what form, we do not know. Perhaps then we can more easily accept the view that death is just a new experience leading to a new horizon--- leading to a new life.”
