Rev. Dr. Richard Laurence Arthur, 83, of Merrimack, NH, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Rose (Horman) Arthur; and a brother, Robert Arthur, of Wisconsin. He was predeceased by his sister, Ann Gallagher.
Rev. Dr. Arthur was born in Arlington, MA, son of Worthen and Helen (Moore) Arthur, and was raised in various Massachusetts towns, including Medford, Leominster and Clinton. A graduate of Clinton High School, Clinton, MA, and Gordon College, Wenham, MA, he went on to earn a Th.M. from Harvard University, Boston, and a Th.D. from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, CA.
From 1988 until his retirement in 2011, Rev. Dr. Arthur was a Professor of Theology at Unification Theological Seminary, New York.
A talented pianist, he enjoyed sharing music with others, playing chess, studying genealogy, and using his computer.
A funeral service, co-officiated by Rev. Jack Malcolmson and Rev. Cindy Kohlmann, will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Presbyterian Church USA, 175 Chestnut St., Clinton, MA. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, MA. A calling hour will be held in the Church on Wednesday morning, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the funeral service.
