Glenn Brown

Died: February 23, 2013

Glenn Patrick Brown was born in Brainerd to Charles and Elvah (Norquist) Brown on November 20, 1937. He died at home on Saturday, February 23, 2013 with his wife and step-daughter at his side.

He lived in Jenkins and Brainerd and graduated from Washington High School in 1957. Glenn served two years in the Army and joined the Navy in 1959. He served in Hawaii, Japan and several areas in the states and retired in 1978.

Glenn married Mary Lou Brown in 1964. Following his retirement they returned to Brainerd and he worked for J C Penny for 23 years. Mary Lou died in 1995.

He married Youma Faye Pearson in 1997 and they did a lot of traveling. He loved to garden and share the produce with friends and neighbors and he always lent a helping hand, he was a true servant of God. He liked music and had a big variety of musical instruments. He enjoyed fishing with his friend, Jack. Glenn was a member of Park United Methodist Church, the church choir and the men’s club. Past Worshipful Master and present Treasurer of Aurora Lodge 100 Am & Fm, past President of Brainerd Area Shrine Club, Shrine Oriental Band, past Worthy Patron of Alpha Chapter #23 OES, Over 20 Military Retirees Club and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Youma Faye; son, Patrick (Kim) Brown of Kent, WA; daughter, Linda (Tim) Buchite of Barret, MN; step-children, Jean Zepp of Orland, CA, David (Bette) Pearson of Springfield, TN and Sandra (Harold) Fantel of McCloud, CA; grandchildren, TJ, Chris, Jenny, Andrew and Maryanne Thompson and Devin Brown; step-grandchildren, Cody, Monica and Maggie Buchite; 7 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Joan Dickman of Seattle, WA, Peggy (Ron) Graham of Fairbanks, AL; brothers, Jerry Norquist, Lancaster, PA, Steve (Rosemary) Brown of Pillager, MN and Tom (Laura) Bliss of Breezy Point, MN.

Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mary; step-father, Ray Bliss; and brothers, Charles Brown and infant brother, Johnny Bliss.

A funeral service celebrating Glenn’s life will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 11:00am at Park United Methodist Church. A visitation will be at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 4-7pm and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Following the visitation at the funeral home, a Masonic and Eastern Star service will take place at 7PM.

Interment will be at the MN State Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
