Lewis W. Culp, Jr., 87, died February 8, 2013, at Paoli Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was the husband of Carmen (Evans) Culp, with whom he shared 59 years of a devoted and loving marriage and friendship.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Lew was the son of the late Lewis W. Culp, Sr. and Josephine (Lewis) Culp. He was also predeceased by his two sisters, Helen Keiner and Jennie Thomas. In addition to his wife, he is survived by an aunt, nephews, nieces, cousins and their families. He has enjoyed many wonderful and strong friendships throughout his life. Smiles are immediate as Lew's stories and humor are recalled. He shall be remembered for his kindness toward all.
During World War II, he served in the Navy aboard the USS Langley CVL 27 in the Pacific theatre from 1942 through 1946. His patriotism for his country was always profound and sincere.
Lew was a member of Thomson Lodge, No.340, Paoli, and University Lodge No.51, Philadelphia, F&AM.
He deeply respected and admired all animals and was an avid catch and release fly fisherman, enjoying creeks in PA, the portage of his canoe to lakes in Canada and fishing Great Slave Lake in Northwest Territories. During the winter, skiing in PA, New York and New England states was his favorite pastime.
Upon retirement, Lew and Carmen traveled extensively, especially enjoying Antarctica, Galapagos, the Arctic, the South China Sea and Australia.
He was graduated from E. L. Meyers High School and the Spring Garden Institute of Technology. His business career was in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning where he worked in service and sales and as owner/operator of his own company.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Lew’s Life Celebration Service on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11am at Mauger-Givnish Funeral Home 24 Monument Avenue Malvern, PA, where friends may visit from 10-11am. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Boy Scouts of America, Chester County Chapter, 504 South Concord Road West Chester, PA 19382, or the Chester County SPCA, 1212 Phoenixville Pike West Chester, PA 19380, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
