William E. Hannis, 94, of Westfield died on Sunday, February 3rd, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Rahway, NJ. Family and friends will begin to gather at 10:00am at the Rossi Funeral Home, 1937 Westfield Ave. Scotch Plains, NJ. on Thursday, February 7th. Funeral Service will begin at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ. The Visitation for William will be 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Wednesday, February 6th.
William was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa and grew up in Cranford, NJ. After his service in the Army he settled to Westfield with his wife Josephine. He served in the Army during W.W. II from 1942-1946 and was stationed in Italy. He recieved the medals of European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and W.W. II Victory Medal. He worked for Fidelity Union Bank in Piscataway as an Assistant Vice President before retiring in 1981. He was a member and spokesman for the Electrical Worker Union. He had a fascination of collecting and selling antiques. William enjoyed playing basketball and was his grandchildren's biggest sports fan.
William is predeceased by his wife Josephine (Urciuoli). He is survived by his children Thomas W. (Patricia), Karen (Alvaro) Pulido, Cynthia (Robert) Babetski, and Barbara (Paul) (Harbaugh). His 7 grandchildren William (Megan), Michael, Erica, Natalie, Elizabeth, David, and Mary. His 2 sisters Mary Knauer and Ruth Franz.
