Joseph H. Briel 90 of Scotch Plains died Sunday January 20 2013 at Somerset Medical Center
The Funeral will be Thursday January 24 at 10 am from the Rossi Funeral Home 1937 Westfield Avenue Scotch Plains, followed by a
Funeral Mass at 10:30am, at St Bartholomew the Apostle Church also in Scotch Plains. The Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 23, from 5 to 8pm at Funeral Home. Interment St Gertrude Cemetery Colonia. To leave letters of condolence please visit our
Joseph was born in Scranton, Pa and settled to Scotch Plains in 1964. During and after WWII, he attended Tulane, Villanova and Penn State Universities, studying business. He was a Gold Circle Member of the VFW, a member of American Legion Post 1000 and
the Knights of Columbus Father Nelligan Council in Scotch Plains.
During WWII Joseph was a Corpman with the United States Navy, and served in the
South Pacific. He was an accountant for his whole career working with many different companies retiring in 1987.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Helen, (96).
Joseph is survived by his loving daughters Barbara Briel, Theresa DiFilippo and husband A.James and Joan Briel,
Caring Grandchildren Lt Jeff Briel of the Scotch Plains Police Dept and wife Lisa, Lisa Raborn, Brielle Calvert and husband John,
Drew and Brent Kerken, Cherished Great Grandchildren Mark, Ben and Lucas Briel, and Alex and Victoria Raborn.
Sisters Elizabeth Schumaker and Dorothy Evans and many nieces and nephews.
