Died: December 30, 2012

U.S. VeteranHerbert P. Strupp, 90 of West Bend, entered eternal life on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Froedtert Health St. Joseph’s Hospital, West Bend.

The eldest child of the late Nicholas Strupp and Kathryn Wolf Strupp, Herb was born on May 10, 1922 in Allenton, WI where they lived on the family farm and attended the local elementary school. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1940. During World War II, Herb served his country in the United States Army. He saw considerable action in the Pacific Theater where he suffered severe wounds to both legs and received the Purple Heart.

He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Evelyn A. Gerlach on June 6, 1947 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend. They joyfully celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1997. The couple had two children, Donald and Catherine. Evelyn predeceased December 16, 2004.

For 40 years, he worked with Burkhardt/Steiner Electric as a master electrician, retiring in 1985.

He was a loyal member of the Fred A. Schaefer Post #1393 VFW, marching in all the West Bend parades since the war, Boy Scout Master for 25 years, longtime bowling league member and a Red Cross volunteer. Herb loved life and lived every day to the fullest. He enjoyed camping with immediate and extended family in the 1960’s, followed by years spent at the cottage fishing, boating and relaxing. An avid reader and amateur photographer for decades, Herb also enjoyed big band music, flower gardening and spending time in the outdoors, a love and appreciation he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Family meant everything to Herb. He so dearly loved his wife, Evelyn, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, his numerous dogs, brother and sisters, and nieces and nephews. A sincere, reflective and quiet man, Herb will always be remembered for his gentle nature and temperament , support and helpfulness to family and friends, and his famous, contagious smile. Herb was so happy and proud to be part of the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. on September 15, 2012, and to share this experience with his son.

Herb is survived by his children, Donald (Penny) Strupp of Rhinelander and Catherine (John) Perronne of Hingham, grandchildren Nicholas Strupp of Rhinelander, Kate Perronne of Whitewater, Matthew (Tiffany) Farley of Pensacola, FL, Robyn (Eugene) Reinke of Rhinelander, and great-granddaughter Aliyah Stroik. He is also survived by a sister, Eleanore Peters, sisters-in-law Leatrice Strupp, and Rosemary Parchim, brother-in-law Ralph Rosbeck and loving and caring companion of 5 years Eleanor Holzmann. He is further survived by many relatives, friends and special nieces and nephews who “will miss Uncle Herbie’s advice, positive attitude, and big smile.”

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a loving brother Edward, a sister Lucille Albinger, brothers-and-sisters-in-law and close cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 5 at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Brittain presiding. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the church only on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.
