James E. Biondi

Born: February 16, 1911
Died: December 21, 2012

James E. Biondi, 101, of Oxford Rd. Oxford, entered eternal rest on Friday Dec. 21, at Griffin Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of Estelle Zamoic Biondi and the late Antoinette Santora Biondi .  Mr. Biondi was born in Fano, Italy, on Feb. 16, 1911, son of the late Angelo and Maria Biagiarelli Biondi.  In November, 1953, Jim founded the Oxford Oil Company and the business flourished because of his inventiveness, honesty and unselfish commitment to the homeowner.  Samples of which include building an electric reel that boosted 15 home deliveries per day to as many as 50.  Starting business with the Neptune meter, so that the customer paid only for what the meter printed and what they actually received, was one of the catalysts for his success. He was the very first in CT to use a meter with a printed receipt.  He was proud to have his family join him in the family business to continue to provide dedicated service to their valued clients.  Often times, Jim did things that no one else could do and no one would believe it was even possible until he did it.  Like a self-taught engineer, he built portable welders out of junk stuff prior to 1953. Made just like a manufacturer the only thing new was the welder itself, the rest was car parts and fully automatic.  He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and St. Augustine Church.  Mr. Biondi was a “life long” member of the Oxford Lion’s Club, a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient, a member of the Knights of Columbus Aurora Council #53 and the Oxford Senior Center.  Jim created the Oxford Lions Memorial Day Parade floats, was President during 1979-1980 and ran a yearly glaucoma drive.  He was named Knight of the Blind and Lion of the Year in 1972-1973 and 1979-1980.  Mr. Biondi was a proud member of the National Guard, a Boy Scout Leader and a member of the Riverside Volunteer Fire Company.  Mr. Biondi is survived by his wife, Estelle Biondi; devoted sons – James F. Biondi, and his wife Jean, of Manhattan Beach, CA, Thomas P. Biondi and his partner Dianna O'Connor of Oxford, and Kenneth J. Biondi  of Oxford; beloved daughter Carolyn Hannon of Orange; step-daughter Linda Desmaris and her husband Paul of Lebanon, CT; and sisters Laura Bengivengo and Elsie Valeski both of Seymour.  He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: James R. Hannon and his wife Kimberly of VA, Jillian Desmaris of NJ, Ryan Desmaris of Lebanon; and his great granddaughter Carrington Hannon of VA. In addition to his first wife, Antoinette, he was predeceased by his son, Ronald J. Biondi and brother Mario Biondi.  Funeral Services will be held at the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home 47 Washington Ave. Seymour on Thursday at 9:30am for a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Oxford.  Interment will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00pm.  Memorial Contributions may be made to the Oxford Lions Club or Aurora Council #53 Knights of Columbus.
