Dale James Leistico, age 74, of Hillsboro, OR, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012, in Hillsboro. A memorial service was held on Saturday, December 1, at Cornell Estates in Hillsboro. A second memorial service in Lompoc, CA, and interment at Lompoc Cemetery will be held at a later date.
The thing of it is, Dale was born July 1, 1938, in Worthington, MN, to Everett and Sophia (Schackel Crippen) Leistico. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1956. Dale then attended University of Minnesota and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1962. He later became a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer.
Dale moved to Sunnyvale, CA, in 1962, and worked for Lockheed. He met Agnes Rapp in 1968 while at a square dance hoedown. They married in 1972 and moved to Mt. Pleasant, SC, where Dale worked as a member of the Civil Service at the Charleston Naval Shipyards. The Leistico Family moved to Lompoc, CA, in 1979, where Dale served as Range Safety Support at Vandenberg Air Force Base. He retired in 2002. In 2011, Dale and Agnes moved to Hillsboro to be closer to family. His new friends quickly became acquainted with some of his favorite sayings including, "I've got a real good question for you," and "you had better well believe it!"
He loved operating his HAM Radios, raising African Violets, fiddling with computers, woodworking, telling stories, rattling people's cages, asking for Government or AAA Discounts, and getting into mischief. He was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League, Satellite Radio Club, and the IEEE. Dale was also a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where he served as usher, elder, acolyte, and many other leadership positions and volunteering for many projects.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes, of Hillsboro; his son Rev. James (Laura) Leistico of Evansville, IL; daughters Dr. Laurene (Michael) Hofman of Bourbonnais, IL; Susan Leistico of Memphis, TN; and five grandchildren: Emma, Jonathan, Timothy, Erin, and Sophia Leistico; brothers Mel (Millie) Leistico and Dewey (Hap) Leistico all of Chattaroy, WA; sisters Carol Waggoner of London, OH; Geraldine (Victor) Pohlman of Lakefield, MN; and Marilyn (Donald) Moe of Hamel, MN; a sister-in-law, Marge Veith of Mt. Vernon, OH; a brother-in-law Michael Jefferis of Minneapolis, MN; as well as many members of the extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, L. Virginia Chase Leistico; his brothers Dudley and Robert; his sister, Mary; a son, Jonathan; and four other babies.
