Dr. George P. Steponkus

U.S. VeteranDr. George P. Steponkus, 97,
of Eastern St. New Haven,  entered
eternal rest on Sunday Nov. 18th at CT Hospice in Branford.   Dr. Steponkus was born in New Haven on Dec.
2. 1914, son of the late Michael and Agnes Macaitis Steponkus.  He attended Hillhouse High School, Stone
Business College, Collegiate Preparatory School, Wagner College, and Georgetown
School of Dentistry.  While at Wagner he
played varsity football, basketball, and baseball.  He was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.  At Georgetown he was a member of the Psi
Omega Dental fraternity.  He proudly
served our country as a member of the US Navy during  WWII and with the 5th Air Force in Korea during the
Korean Conflict.  Following his return
from military duty, he was a prominent Dentist in Branford until
his retirement in 1983.  He was a
Lifetime member of the American Dental Association, CT State Dental
Association, and the New Haven Dental Association.  He was a member of the former St. Casmir’s Men’s Club, a past
president of the East Haven Lions Club, a lifelong member of the Branford Elks,
# 1939, and the Branford American Legion Post 83.  He was an active salt water fisherman, Captain of the “Salt
Shaker,” and a 30 year member of the Branford Yacht Club. He is survived by his
devoted niece, MaryJane Steponkus of East Haven; and nephew Charles W.
Steponkus Jr. of Madison.  He was
predeceased by his brother, Charles W. Steponkus, Sr., and niece, Gail
Martin.  Funeral services will be held
at the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home, 47 Washington Ave. Seymour on
Friday Nov. 23 at 10:30 am for a 11:00 Mass of Christian Burial at St Augustine
Church, Seymour. Burial, with Full Military Honors, will follow at Evergreen
Cemetery in New Haven.  Per Dr.
Steponkus’ wishes, please omit flowers.
