Joanne Boardman, 72, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away, Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, who love her to the moon and back.
Born September 19, 1940, in Highland, Indiana, the daughter of Victor and Joanna Sarbon, Joanne married Jack Boardman on June 24, 1961. She attended the local schools in Highland, graduating from Highland High School in 1958. She then attended Northern Illinois University and graduated in 1962 with a degree in education.
Joanne was a third grade teacher at Jefferson School in DeKalb, for three years before starting a family of John, Dan and Stephanie Boardman.
She was a member of local PEO, DeKalb Women’s Club, and Kishwaukee Country Club, where she was champion of a 9-hole golf league for two years. She so loved her friends at Birthday Bunch, as well as her Friendship Gardeners involvement. After raising her family, she pursued her passion for antiques and became an antique dealer on a national level. She completed antique shows all over the country, including New England and Nashville, gaining a great reputation with many customers and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Boardman of DeKalb; sons, John (Wendy) Boardman of North Liberty, Iowa, Dan (Jamie) Boardman of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota; daughter, Stephanie (Ron) Ferrin of Vero Beach, Florida; granddaughters, Karley Boardman, Madyson Boardman and Allye Boardman of North Liberty, and Hannah Boardman of Marine on St. Croix; and grandson, Jackson Boardman of Marine on St. Croix.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Joanna Sarbon; sister, Sylvia Wisdom; and brothers, John and Victor Sarbon.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Kishwaukee Community Hospital and Cancer Center for their compassionate care over the past decade.
The memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 11, at First United Methodist Church, DeKalb, where she had been a member for 50-plus years.
