Carl Jacob Rapson, 95 of Louisville, returned to his Heavenly Father while surrounded by his loving family on October 23, 2012. He was the youngest of four children born to Clarence and Katie Rapson. Carl was a World War II veteran of the Fifth Armored Division who received a purple heart while in combat. His entrepreneurial spirit was legendary. One of his greatest accomplishments was founding Rapson’s Tree Service over 60 years ago. Carl was also a member of the Louisville Nursery Association. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, watching UK sports, being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Of his many gifts, Carl will always be remembered for his wonderful storytelling and sense of humor. He was great fun to be around and was enjoyed by everyone. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Kathleen and devoted children Sharon Hord (Jim), Doug (Sherry), Tom (Karen), Cathy Krebs (Jim), Debbie Elder (Karl), Sandy Balser (Dave), Rick, Kim Foy (Keenan) and Greg (Pam). Family members include 26 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and countless life-long friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Johnson, Jimmy Rapson, George Rapson Sr. and daughter-in-law Nancy Rapson. Carl’s funeral mass will be at 10 am, Saturday, October 27, 2012 at St. Therese Church, 1010 Schiller Avenue with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. on Friday at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison at Barret Avenues. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Therese Church or Mass of the Air.
