After his first discharge from the Army, Warren went into the insurance business, beginning with the Maryland Casualty Company. In 1955, he joined the William F. Warren was inducted into the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame in 2010. In the 1970s, Governor Dan Walker appointed Warren to the Medical Malpractice Committee, the only insurance agent on that body. Warren was a member and president of the DeKalb Lions Club; a life member of the DeKalb Elks Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, KCH100, and the American Legion. He was a member of Kishwaukee Country Club for more than 50 years.

Warren married Arlene Whittenberg on June 10, 1950, in Mount Prospect, Illinois. After Arlene’s death in 1979, Warren married Frances (Hawkins) Spires on September 26, 1980, in DeKalb, Illinois.
