U.S. VeteranALLYN R. ADAMS age 69. Well loved husband of 46 years to Susan (nee Jerman); loving father of Allyn Jr. (Kimberly) and Katherine Kelly (Timothy); dear grandpa of Ryan and Colin Adams, Elizabeth and Emily Blesi, and Molly and Samuel Kelly; son of Edythe (nee Gliebe) and the late Richard Adams Sr.; brother of Timothy (Bonnie) and Richard (Susan); uncle and cousin of many. Passed away suddenly Sept. 30, 2012. Funeral Mass Thursday Oct. 4, St. Angela Merici Church (20970 Lorain Rd. Fairview Park) at 11:30 AM. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Private family entombment Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers family suggests contributions to the Berea Youth Works, North End Foundation, 631 N. Rocky River Dr. Berea, Oh 44017 would be appreciated.




Allyn R. Adams


In 1966, he married Susan Marie Jerman, a native of Cleveland and graduate of Magnificat High School and Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois. They have lived in Berea, Ohio since 1970 and have a home at Atwood Lake, where they enjoyed boating and water sports. His other leisure activities included travel and carpentry. Their son, Allyn, Jr., is a graduate of St. Ignatius and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Allyn, Jr. earned his MBA from Cleveland State University, and currently lives in Avon Lake with his wife Kim. Katherine, their daughter, graduated from Magnificat and John Carroll University. Katherine married Timothy Kelly in 2007, and their family lives in Illinois. Allyn and Susan have 6 grandchildren, Ryan and Colin Adams, Lizz and Emily Blesi, and Molly and Sammy Kelly.

Allyn was a certified public accountant who began his career in 1964 with Deloitte LLP (then Haskins & Sells). He received a MBA degree in May 1965 from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was a teaching assistant in accounting. From 1968 to 1970, he was on active duty with the Army Finance Corps and served as a captain with ACV in Saigon. His assignment was an advisor to a branch of the Ministry of National Defense. Allyn was a 1985 graduate of the Owner/Present Management program at the Harvard Business School.

Allyn Adams graduated from John Carroll University in June 1964 as an accounting major with a BSBA degree. He lived on campus for four years and was vice-president of Alpha Kappa Psi and a member of Alpha Sigma Nu and Pi Delta Epsilon. Allyn was appointed Editor-in-Chief of The Carroll News in his sophomore year and held that position through senior year. He is a native of Cleveland and graduate of St. Ignatius High School.

As an alumnus of John Carroll, he was a class agent and member of his class reunion committee. Allyn assisted in the National Alumni-in-Admission Program and in administering the scholarship program endowed by his class for descendants of the Class of ’64. From 1988 to 1993, he was vice present and then president of the National Alumni Board and instituted the memorial tree planting ceremony for deceased alumni during reunion weekend. For the next two years, he chaired the President’s Forum and worked to develop the Lavelle Society. He was a member of the board of Trustees of the University, and the Steering Committee of the Private Sector Business Association.

At Deloitte, Allyn was a retired partner and managed the Growth Company Services practice in the Cleveland Office. He worked with and advised owners and management of his clients in areas such as strategic and succession planning, mergers and acquisitions, estate planning, etc. He had primary responsibility for his firm’s campus recruiting activities at John Carroll and coordinated the Deloitte & Touche Endowment Fund that provides scholarships to John Carroll students. Allyn was chairman of the Deloitte Federal PAC, co-chaired the Growth Company Services steering committee for the Great Lakes Region, and was a dean at national training seminars. He edited a newsletter directed to private companies and has had articles published in Boardroom Reports, Bottom Line Business, and trade journals.
