James Wayne Alexander

James W. Alexander passed away September 8, 2012 at Park Plaza Independent Living Facility in Walla Walla.

He was born July 28, 1927 in Trenton, Missouri to James & Hester Alexander. The family later moved to Walla Walla. He spent a short time in the Navy during World War II and was discharged when the war was over. During his brief military career, he received the World War II Victory Medal.

His father worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and later Jim also worked for the UPRR. He retired as conductor of the railroad at age 62. He married Doris E. Criss on June 5, 1949 and had five children. He moved to Kennewick in 1970 where he met his friend & companion of 30 plus years, Betty Compton.

Jim loved animals & during his life adopted several rescue dogs. He loved to boat, ride his Goldwing motorcycle and travel around the country in his motorhome visiting friends & family. You could always count on Jim to tell a joke or two. He loved singing and was quite the dancer. Doing crossword puzzles and writing poetry were a favorite pastime.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Alexander & Gerald Alexander; sisters, Helen Tigh & Mildred Whitehead. He is survived by his wife Doris Alexander of Walla Walla; sons, Ronald Alexander of Walla Walla, Richard Alexander of North Carolina, Robert Alexander of College Place; daughters, Janet Opp of Walla Walla & Judy Rowland of Dayton. He has 5 grandchildren, Jeff Bradshaw of College Place, Kristina Bradshaw of Florida, Andrew Dicken of Ellensburg, Travis Alexander of North Carolina and Kyla Hile of Idaho. He also has 5 great grandchildren, Corbyn & Tessa of North Carolina, Brooklyn of Ellensburg and Brooks & Gillian of Clarkston.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 1:00 PM Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Society or the Pioneer Park Aviary through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
