U.S. VeteranHarold Dean Bell, 77, of Chatham, IL, passed away to his heavenly home Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Auburn Nursing and Rehab. He was born January 8, 1935, in Chatham, the son of Jesse Dean and Helen Marie Cantrall Bell. On August 26, 1956, he married Carol Nell Keltner. His parents preceded him in death.

Mr. Bell is survived by his wife, Carol, of 55 years; children: Karen Michelle (Gary) Joe of Chatham; Kimberly (Jerry) Cooper of Auburn; Stacy Lynette (Michael) Pioletti of Stoughton, WI; Troy Dean (Natalie) Bell of Auburn; grandchildren: Lyndee, Billy and Ryan Joe, Hunter and Karlee Pioletti; Jesse and Dawson Bell, Colton Cooper; brother Richard (Nita) Bell of Chatham; aunts Gladys Sommer and Louise Crouse of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Bell was a lifelong resident of Chatham. As a young man, he served his country in the United States Army. He was employed with the Village of Chatham for 24 years as the Supervisor of Streets and Water. Mr. Bell was a volunteer firefighter for Chatham Fire Protection District for 23 years. An active member of Chatham Baptist Church, he was the Sunday school secretary and instrumental in helping with the building of the new church. Mr. Bell was a fun, loving and friendly person who was a joy to be around. He loved his children and grandchildren and they loved him.

Visitation: Wednesday, March 14, from 4-7PM, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham.

Services: Thursday, March 15-Visitation from 9AM until the time of services at 10AM, at Chatham Baptist Church, 1500 East Walnut Street, Chatham, with Rev. Milton Bost officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
