Sarah Ann (Parker) Fowler, age 84 of Marblehead, beloved wife of the late Roger Fowler, died at home December 24, 2011 following a long illness. Her late husband predeceased her March 20, 2007.
Sally was born in Marblehead at the Mary A. Alley Hospital on July 27, 1927, the only child of the late Chester and Anna (Laskey) Parker. She was educated in Marblehead schools, graduating from Marblehead High School in 1945. She went on to receive her Bachelors degree from Wheelock College.
For several years she taught in Marblehead public schools and was later employed by Harbor Sweets in Salem until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of the Old North Church where she ran the Old North Church Nursery School for 20 years. She also volunteered at Salem Hospital.
Sally, proud to be a "townie", was a club champion badminton player as well as an expert skier. She was a member of the Gut ‘n Feathers Club, the Eastern Yacht Club and the Dolphin Yacht Club in Marblehead. An ardent sailor, she raced competitively in the Marblehead Racing Association. Sally crewed for Emily Magoon aboard her 210 and with Dick Hill on his International One Design.
She is survived by a sister in law, Allison Fowler (the wife of Roger’s late brother, Dick) of Marblehead and their children Leslie Gurley of Manchester by the Sea and Clark Fowler of Florida.
Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at 11:00 AM in the Old North Church, 35 Washington St., Marblehead. Interment will be private.
