Sylvia Mulford (Tilton) Bennett, 81, of 418 Wattaquadock Hill Road, died Thursday, December 29, 2011 in Apple Valley Center, Ayer, following a lengthy illness.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Harry C. Bennett; three sons: Thomas A. Strong of Easthampton, NY, Stanley T. Strong, III of Southampton, NY, and Jeffrey C. Bennett of Port St. Lucie, FL; a daughter, Linda B. Wood of Bolton; two brothers: Arnold T. Tilton and Earl E. Tilton; eight grandchildren: Caitlin, Lisa, Stanley IV, James, Kyle, Janice, Thomas, Jr., and Brittney: three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Born in Portland, ME, the daughter of Earl W. and Mary E. (Mulford) Tilton, she was raised in Bridgehampton, NY. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Bridgehampton High School.

A Geriatric Nurse, Sylvia worked for several years at Todd Nursing Home in Southampton. She later owned and operated Ocean View Guest House for Senior Citizens in Sagaponack, NY for ten years. Upon relocating to Maine, she continued her work with the elderly for several years until her retirement in 1990.

An incredible musical talent, she played the organ, piano, flute & clarinet, and could “dance like crazy”. She had four horses that she adored, and loved all animals. Sylvia will long be remembered for her kindness and willingness to help others, whether they needed a bag of groceries, or simply a shoulder to cry on.

Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, will take place on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at 1:45 p.m. There are no calling hours.
