U.S. VeteranClyde Michael Bollinger, 89, of Sycamore, Ill., died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Pine Acres Rehab & Living Center, DeKalb.

Born Oct. 7, 1921, in Farmington, the son of Michael Henry and Eva (Spenney) Bollinger, he was a heavy-equipment operator with Local 150 and a lifetime member of the International Brotherhood of Operating Engineers.

A veteran of the US Army, having served during World War II, he fought during D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a lifetime member of Genoa Masonic Lodge and was a 32-Degree Mason and a member of Scottish Rite Shriners.

He is survived by his beloved companion, Marge Milles – “My Marge,” as Clyde would say; four children, Michael (Pauline) Bollinger of Arizona, Eva Bollinger (Michael) Marchese of Maple Park, Stephen (Donna) Bollinger of Elgin and Deborah Bollinger (Clark) Ganshirt of East Dundee; nine grandchildren, including Jennifer Marchese (Michael) Taylor and Paul (Nicole) Marchese, both of DeKalb, and Daniel (Amy) Marchese, who is a Marine stationed in Burlington, Wis., and Chad (Liz) Ganshirt, Erin Ganshirt (Brian) Weick, Jacob (Kelly) Bollinger, Lucas Bollinger, Shelton Bollinger and Karen Bollinger; 15 great-grandchildren; and his animal friends, including two dogs, Curly and Beano, and several cats.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 14 siblings.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Robert Vaughn of Malta Congregational Church officiating, with full military rites. Cremation will follow at Anderson Funeral Home Crematory. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Anderson Funeral Home.
