Funeral services for Ira Lawan Kemp will be at 10 A.M., Monday, August 15, 2011, at the Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Tolbert and Rev. Joe Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, from 2 to 3 P.M. at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home, Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Lawan was born on March 22, 1934 in Berwyn, Oklahoma to Ira Everett and Miche Artie (Carroll) Hammer. She died at the Ardmore hospital on August 10, 2011, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 18 days.

Lawan married Jesse Joe Kemp on August 22, 1951, in Seattle, Washington. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2010.

She was retired from the Carter County Health Department where she worked as a field representative. She had also worked in retail for Daube’s, Michelle’s, and the Brown Paper Bag. Lawan was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

Lawana is survived by her daughters, Teresa Pelton of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Sheri Stephens and her husband David of Huntsville, Texas, and Tammy St. Clair and her husband Asa of Ardmore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Garrett Pelton and Stanton St. Clair, both of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Whitney Kubik and her husband Jacob of Houston, Texas, and Jessica Stephens of Huntsville, Texas; sisters, Jowan Mathews and her husband Gary, Faye Leis, all of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Raye Delcore and husband Loyd of Odessa, Texas, and Jewell Cogburn of Boerne, Texas; brother in law, Clyde Kemp and his wife Jean, Inez Ralls, Pat Doughty and her husband Doyle, all of Ardmore, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, sister, Cleo Robinson, and brothers, Vernon Hammer and Jack Hammer preceded her in death.
